Mice are destructive little creatures that can cause a substantial headache for homeowners. Not only are they unsanitary, as they leave their droppings throughout the home, but they can cause problems by chewing on electrical wires, destroying food supplies, and transmitting disease. If you see mice in your home, the good news is that you don’t have to live with them. There is a way to keep mice away from your living space; you simply need to follow a few tips to have the best chance of success.

Keep Food Out of Reach of Mice

If mice find a food source in your home, they are much more likely to set up a nest and settle down. Go through your pantry and make sure that your food is in rodent-proof containers. For example, transfer cereal out of the boxes and into plastic containers with a lid. Get a good trash can that has a tight-fitting lid, and remove the garbage on a regular basis.  Don’t leave dishes in your sink at night, and take a few minutes to sweep or mop the floor in the evenings

Pick Up Stuff So Mice Have Nowhere to Live

Mice are probably more scared of you than you are of them. They are nocturnal, which means they come out at night, and they don’t like to be out in the open. If you have a lot of “stuff” in your home, you are unwittingly giving the rodents a place to hide. Take the time to go through your belongings and get rid of anything that isn’t absolutely necessary. Keep items picked up off the floor. Don’t store old cardboard or magazines. By keeping your home as picked up as possible, you are discouraging mice from invading.

Seal Holes So Mice Cant Enter Your Home

Mice can fit through holes that are about the size of a dime. As a result, it can be very difficult to find and plug up all the holes that are allowing these rodents to access your home. However, you can do as much as possible to stop them from entering. Walk around your property and look for areas that need to be fixed. Pay particular attention to places where the wall meets the floor, vents, pipes, doors, and fireplaces. Also examine the foundation and windows. To fill a hole, put in a little steel wool and seal it with caulk.

Work With A Professional

Sometimes, you can do everything possible and still have mice in your home. At a certain point, it is best to bring in a professional pest control company to help. Bug Guys Pest Control knows how quickly a mouse problem can escalate. Get in touch with them as soon as possible to help you get rid of these little creatures.
