The Sunnylands Center and Gardens is a property of great historical and cultural significance in California. The Center offers free, guided tours of the property and the grounds to the public, to help to educate them about the critical role that the property played in days-gone-by.

The Sunnylands Center and Gardens represent the potential that a well thought out and carefully managed program of garden care can provide your property with, even if—presumably—on a much larger scale. The Center and Gardens are open to the public for free throughout the year, provided you visit between Thursday and Sunday and are operated to educate the public in regards to the important historical significance of the property.

History of Sunnylands Center and Garden

As the winter home of Walter and Leonore Annenberg, the Sunnylands Center and Garden were first opened up for residents over forty years ago and, in the year of 2001, they took their project to the next level by founding the Annenberg Foundation Trust. The Trust was tasked with the preservation and protection of the property and the education of the public in regards to the property’s rich, historical importance.

The Sunnylands Center and Garden have played host to several essential and influential public figures over recent and semi-recent years, including some particularly notable individuals including Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, during their 10-day tour of California in 1983. The property also played host to President Nixon during his presidency and time in office.

What Do The Sunnylands Center and Garden Offer Guests?

The estate of Sunnyside Center and Gardens lends an air of unique charm and elegance. The grounds can be explored during one of the Trust’s renowned, expert-guided tours; these show visitors around the historic property and point out some of the most valuable pieces in its collections and exhibitions. These tours typically last about 90 minutes, and each one covers a lot of information in a short space of time, making it a full-on but exciting experience for anyone who lives in the Palm Springs, CA, area and wants to try something a little different for the next family day out!

The Sunnylands Gardens provide an excellent opportunity for avid gardening fans, with the landscape being home to somewhere around 70,000 specialized, arid-resistant strains of plants. These have evolved over the years to be able to withstand the Californian climate, and by using them as part of their magnificent garden displays, the Center can create exceptional results every time that is more than worth a look.

The Sunnylands Center and the Gardens boast of their exceptional collection of statues, films, and media from the twentieth century. They also host numerous exhibitions every year, which are great for viewing. The Center also has a small gift shop, whose wares feature the designs and influence of Sunnyside itself. There is also a cafe on-site which offers light bites and drinks.
