Facts About Ants

With the exception of Antarctica, ants are found on all the continents of the world. They have been around for more than a hundred and twenty million years old, adapt well to a variety of situations and are not easy to eliminate. Some of the most common types of ants in our area are fire ants, carpenter ants, sugar ants, pavement ants and argentine ants, although there are many different types of species.

Because ants live in colonies, you must destroy the whole colony if you want to get rid of the pests. A spray is not effective; it only kills the ants you can see but does nothing to eliminate the ones you don’t see. Like most other bugs, ants are interested in food and shelter, which is why they infest your home.

How Can You Get Rid of Ants?

It is important to erase the pheromone trail that ants lay down. Simply wiping the area in question is not going to do the trick. Instead, combine three cups of water with one cup of vinegar; place the solution in a spray bottle and put the solution wherever you’ve seen or suspected ants.

Moisture attracts ants. Get rid of any standing water on your property and check to make sure you don’t have any leaks in your kitchen or bathroom. Don’t forget about the exterior of your home, either; if your gutters or downspouts are in disrepair, they could cause water to puddle up as well.

You can have ants even if your home is very clean; they are able to find the smallest bits of food. It is still important, though, that you do everything in your power to keep them from finding anything to eat. Make sure you put your dishes away at night. Clean your counter and sweep your floors. Vacuum regularly as well. If you have food that you think the ants can access, store them in plastic containers with a lid instead of keeping them in their original containers. Also, make sure your trash is in a closed bin at all times.

Ant baits can help control your problem as well.

Why Should You Be Worried About Ants?

Ants take over a home very quickly. Before you know it, what was once a minor annoyance has become a full-fledged problem. Not only are ants difficult to kill, but once they enter your home, they lay down a pheromone trail to show other ants how to gain access to your property.

What ants does your service eliminate?
There isn’t just one type of ant. There are actually hundreds of different species that could become problematic for your home. The good news, is we treat properties for almost every variety of ants found in the Coachella Valley. These can include carpenter ants, fire ants, pharaoh ants, and pavement ants. Our treatments are highly effective and can flush out infestations no matter how big or small they may be. It is important to note that most ants have a colony outside the home, and find their way into the house. One of the ways they lure the colony into your home is leaving a trail of pheromones. Our pesticides eliminate this trail, and the pesticide is carried back to the colony to kill the queen.
What is the cost of ant treatments?
The cost of treatment will vary from household to household. Not everyone’s infestation severity is the same, nor is their property of equal size. Keeping in mind that size matters along with the type of infestation we are dealing with the average cost for treatments range from $100 to $200.

The type of ant infestation can also play a role in cost. Because there are several types and can occur inside and outside the home, these considerations will be factored into the total cost of treatment. For more information on pricing, contact us today for an estimate.

Residential pest control can also be used in apartments and condos in addition to homes. With routine spray treatments, you can minimize the risk of infestations from insects, including ants, roaches, and termites. Using chemical pesticides, we go around the perimeter of each room and the property.

How safe are ant treatments around my family?
A common concern to customers is the safety of their family when pesticides are used. Rest assured our ant treatments are completely safe around the family, including kids and fur babies. Pesticides are designed to kill insects, such as ants, and target their exoskeleton. Our technicians take great precautions when treating an area to target the ants effectively. We use a combination of spray and baits, which are completely safe around pets and children. Pesticides in the past were dangerous. But thanks to advancements in the field, these solutions are entirely harmless in the home. At Bug Guys Pest Control, we only use the top pesticides in the industry.

How long does it take to eliminate ants completely?
Of all the questions our customers have about ant control, how long will it take to work is the most difficult to answer. Each situation is different. Smaller infestations could resolve much quicker than others, and certain types of ants are more resistant to the pesticides requiring more time to extinguish the colony. Generally speaking, most homeowners will see an improvement within a couple of days. This can include a drastic reduction in the number of ants or ants no longer being present. However, sometimes, it can take a couple of weeks. If after almost a month, you haven’t seen a change, we are more than happy to retreat the area.

Organic pesticides, while being eco-friendly, isn’t always the best solution. For those that want a specific solution to pests, chemical pesticides are the best remedy for fast and effective results.

Is seeing more ants after treatments normal?
Something we hear from homeowners is that there seems to be an increase in ants following a treatment. Don’t panic! This is completely normal. Flushing, as it is sometimes called, can happen following the application of pesticides. It doesn’t always happen, but when it does, it can feel like you are losing the battle. What is actually happening is the infestation was more extensive than initially thought. The good news is, with the increase of ants, we will be able to get rid of the colony faster. The more ants that carry the bait back to the nest, the sooner you will see results.
How long will an ant treatment last?
Because we do a combination of baiting and spraying, the results tend to last longer than a single treatment. With pesticide sprays homeowners can expect an ant-free property for 30-90 days, depending on the application. Baits typically are good for only for 30-days and will need to be replaced. While our ant treatments are highly effective, many factors can play a role in reinfestation. If you happen to see after the initial treatment that ants are still visible, contact us for retreating the area. We recommend, for maximum protection, to have a monthly maintenance plant to protect your home from a reinfestation.

We not only provide routine treatments but single infestation solutions. Some of these pests we can eliminate from your home include bees, wasps, rodents, fleas, snakes, rabbits, and bed bugs. Contact us today for all your pest control needs. If something isn’t listed, we still may be able to solve your unwanted pest problem.
